Saturday Shelby is happy to announce that Amy Harness has become a member of our staff. Harness will be in charge of our advertising, but she has much more to offer to the community as well.

Harness is also the owner of the Trinkets n Threads store, the director of Downtown Shelby Days and is on the board for the Shelby County Cancer Association and Major Foundation.

Harness said that helping the paper would be a great fit for what she believes in, which is helping her community. She believes firmly in the publication’s adage “the local people’s voice.”

“My plans for the paper are to continue to work with the businesses and people to show them that Saturday Shelby is the way to advertise,” Harness said. “There isn’t another newspaper where you can get the rates that we offer for the publications that we do and offering for free to the readers.”

Harness is a graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University and has a degree in Business Management.

Harness’s Trinkets n Threads shop consists of upcycled decor, furniture, antiques and handmade items.

Harness shared that she had wanted to see a shop like Trinkets n Threads happen in Shelbyville, so she decided to open the store herself.

Last summer was the first year for Downtown Shelby Days, which was very successful. Harness was in charge of the celebration, which consisted of concerts, artisans, a parade, the crowning of Miss Shelby and much more.

According to Harness, she has a passion for the downtown area, which is where the Trinkets n Threads shop is located.

Kristiaan Rawlings, Saturday Shelby’s Publisher, talked with Harness shortly after her shop opened, which is how Harness became involved with the organization.

Along with her new position, Harness has also undergone some personal changes in addition to professional changes as she has recently gotten engaged to her boyfriend, WSVX’s Johnny McCrory.

“He took me to the place where we first met when he interviewed me about Downtown Shelby Days,” Harness said, “He asked me to marry him there.”

Harness is thrilled to join the team at Saturday Shelby.

“[The staff] seems to share a passion for helping our community,” Harness said.

Trinkets n Threads hours are Mon.-Fri., 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is located at 112 S. Harrison St.

Downtown Shelby Days will take place on Sept. 9-10.

Welcome aboard, Amy!
